What is Guided Relaxation?

When we combine muscle relaxing techniques, mind-calming images and soothing sounds, our bodies naturally respond by releasing tension and focusing on the present moment...which has been made peaceful by the processes.

What can be accomplished in this state?

It is a wonderful way to quiet the normal "chatter" of your mind and become more in touch with your intuition.

Does it work? 

Research shows that using your imagination in a relaxed state with a specific purpose in mind can allow dentistry to be performed without Novocain, sports performance to be improved, and stage fright to disappear, among countless other things. Is there any reason this technique should not work for bridal stress?

Will I be able to do it?

All you need is a quiet place to listen to the tape. If you can follow instructions, you can do it...and it's fun!  Also, the more you practice relaxing, the easier it becomes.

How can this help me make decisions about my wedding?

Easy!  Since guided relaxation puts you more in touch with your intuition and creativity, answers to unresolved questions may spontaneously pop into your mind. For example, you are asked on the tape if there are any special words you want to say to your groom during the ceremony, you are then given time for an answer to appear. The answer may be "no." or, you may imagine yourself saying the words you have already prepared, which is like practicing them. Then again, you may decide for the first time that there is something you want to add: perhaps a poem you suddenly remembered or a thought you want to share.

You are given many opportunities to use your intuition in making practical decisions.  Or, if all your decisions are already made, you can simply imagine the final results all working out perfectly.  This is the exact opposite of worrying and a lot more productive.
